New Mapping America's Segregated Cities

Jim Vallandingham has created a release of force-directed maps to powerfully visualize segregation inwards U.S.A. cities. In each of the maps the nearly segregated neighborhoods are animated every bit they force away from other neighborhoods, based on the differences inwards proportion of the white as well as dark populations inwards each neighborhood census tract.

Visualizing The Racial Divide includes maps for xiii American cities, including St Louis, Chicago as well as Baltimore. Select the push for 1 of the urban nub maps as well as the areas amongst the nearly segregated populations force away from the neighboring areas, spell areas of homogeneity remain largely static. As the nearly segregated neighborhoods motion farther away from the less segregated areas spaces seem on the map where at that topographic point is a pregnant alter inwards the racial makeup betwixt neighboring census tracts. The infinite is proportional to the alter inwards racial composition betwixt neighborhoods.

The information is based on the 2010 census as well as the visualization was created using d3.js
