Over the terminal calendar week I've been having a lot of fun playing amongst the Leaflet-IIIF plug-in. The plug-in allows you lot to map museum documents in addition to manuscripts using the Leaflet,js mapping library.
's Spectacular Compendium of Victorian Map Games uses the plug-in to showcase some of the 18th & 19th century map race games owned yesteryear the Bodleian Library. These board games were used to entertain children spell equally good didactics a piddling geography. The geography which was taught was seen from a particluar imperialistic western perspective (or from a distinctly racist perspective on occasion).
All 7 games inwards this collection are race games. The objective inwards each game was for the players to become to a greater extent than or less the map board equally apace equally possible. Each of these games either came amongst a 'teetotum' spinner (which players spun to gain upwards one's hear the give away of moves on the board) or came amongst dice. Some of the games equally good came amongst classify booklets which provided geographical or historical information on some of the locations featured.
